Outlaws in “The Nation”
The history on this property and stories passed down from previous owners are quite remarkable. The locals refer to this place as “The Nation”, which is short for “The Old Home Place in the Nation”. It is located just near the small town of Allendale, Missouri (population 53). As told by the current owner, thousands of people would converge on this land every year for weekly concerts, put on by Vance and Lila Monday dating back to the 1980’s. One event in particular brought over 5,000 people who camped all around the area. The concerts were frequent, until the Vance family eventually sold the land several decades later. A portion of the old stage where the bands performed is still there today, and sits just behind the newly constructed home. The owner also shared that the infamous outlaw Jesse James once held out on the land. He was evadeding authorities looking to arrest him for one of his many bank robberies. Bonnie and Clyde were also said to have spent time on the property as they too were on the run from the law. It’s quite unique that so many historic events took place here, and now the opportunity to own a piece of history is yours.
Current Property Details
Today, the property is a bit more relaxing than it was in those times. The current owners have constructed a very well built 2 BR, 1 BA home overlooking a stocked pond, which is perfect for summer fishing. The home is being sold fully furnished, which includes nearly everything shown in the property photos (excluding taxidermy and shop/garage items). An attached 1 car garage and detached shop provide plenty of storage for vehicles and all the toys one would need on a property this size. Trails meander throughout the property, providing easy access from the cabin back to the food plot in the center of the property and even further to a nice enclosed blind in the Eastern edge of the timber. Wildlife is quite frequent on the property, and the owner never struggles to find plenty of deer and turkey during the hunting seasons. A few of the wild game mounts shown were animals harvested from this property.
If you’re looking for a fully turn-key, ready to go, property to live or just spend some quiet time away from the city, this could be it. This property is perfect for a basecamp, weekend getaway, or a beautiful investment property for an Airbnb or VRBO portfolio that you can enjoy as well.
